Lentesokken
Pattern mods for knitting on a flatbed knitting machine Brother 892, picking up sole stitches as you go.
CO 68 st on WY, T5,knit 1 row. Change to MC (blue) knit 14 rows.
Next row: slip one st to adjacent ndl , move back free ndls in non-working position, knit one row.
Bring non-working ndls back in working pos. and knit 14 rows. Remove WY and pick up cast on st. on working ndls for picot edging.
T6: knit 4 rows of blue.
Start punchcard pattern and keep track of changing colours at the right time.
I added beads at the heart of every flower using a small crochet ndl.: take st. off the machine, insert crochet ndl through bead, draft st. through bead, hang st. back on ndl. bed again. Move carriage carefully!
After finishing punchcardpattern once knit 4 rows of green.
I worked a lookalike heelflap heel over 34 st.
Work sole and upper foot according to Heidi's all toghether socks method.
Sole: RC =0, knit 60 rows and in the same time decr. 2 st. e.o.r. until 30 st. remain AND apply a hairpin at the end of every row.
Toe: short rowing 10-1-1- st (hang claw weight on back of fabric)
Upper foot: RC=0
* pick up first hairpinned loop and hang on 1st ndl., knit 1 row. Repeat 56 times.
Row 57 and 59: incr. 2 st. and in the mean time pick up the hairpinned loops like before.
Knit one row.
Change to WY and knit one row.
Cast off.
Kitchener stitch open ends together (front leg and upper foot) and sew sideseam.
Knit second sock mirrored.
Soak and block.

In this article my Sarah Lund look-a-like sweaters are being mentioned. A good reason to show another Sarah Lund sweater I made. This was my first one, the one I made for my daughter in law Stephanie. This was the try-out version for the motive and it appeared that it had long floats. For Thomas'Sarah Lund cardigan I made a small alteration in the motive chart.
Here are my knitting directions.
The original motive is copyrighted by Gudrun&Gudrun and I had to make adjustements anyway to fit the motive in a 24 punchcard. So I made my own variation of the motive. For an improved version of the punchcardmotive look here.
This is a combination of machine knit (straight parts) and handknit raglan yoke, borders and finishing.
Yarn: Ístex Létt-Lopi, 10 skeins = 1090.0 yards (996.7m)of Colorway light heather grey
and: Ístex Létt-Lopi, 2 skeins = 218.0 yards (199.3m)of Colorway bright blue
Both purchased at Astrid's Dutch Obsessions
Brother 260, Tension4
Front , back and sleeves knit flat.
Then joined them for a handknit circular yoke with raglan shaped decreases. I used the instructions from the Lopi book number 27, pattern 18 Nost.
Joined sleeves, front and back and decided to knit raglan shaping instead of evenly spaced decreases as usual with circular yokes. I couldn’t manage to make the decreases fit with this large motive.
Designing a motive for machine knitting is not easy: this one has very long floats on the backside of the fabric. I had to sew them afterwards.
I made a lining for the neckband to prevent the wool from itching.

Angry bird tea cozy
My youngest son Jasper lives on his own since last summer and asked for a teacozy. I made him an Angry Black Bird lookalike one.
Here is how I did it.
I used some bulky black leftovers to knit this hatlike teacosy. The rolling hem allows fitting for different sizes of teapots. Teacosy would fit a childs head as a hat. Can easily be knitted by hand of course.
Knit on my Brother 260, tension 4.
CO 60 st. and knit 50 rows of stocking stitch.
Decreases:
move EOS to the adjacent stitch and knit 1 row.
Knit 2 plain rows. Repeat until a few st. are left. Thread yarn through remaining stitches. Sew back seam.
Decorate using felt, buttonds and fleece fabric for eyes and beak.
Mother and daughter hats
These hats were made for my stepdaughter and grandchild.
I like the colour changes in this sockyarn very much and I think they worked out very nice in these hats and the scarf. I knit them on my Brother 862 on Tension 5.
Yarn: Scheepjeswol Invicta Colour, 1 skein = 460.0 yards (420.6m), Colorway 958
and Scheepjeswol Invicta Colour, 1 skein = 460.0 yards (420.6m), Colorway 959
Both purchased at Quiltservice Frederiksoord www.quiltservice.nl
Fish pattern for punchcard comes from “Colourful machine knitting patterns, vol.1”.
Adult hat has 6 pattern repeats, so:
CO 144 st on waste yarn, knit 2 rows and change to MC. Picot edging: Knit 10 rows. Next row: move every other st,. to the adjacent ndl. putting empty ndls. out of working position and knit over it once. Next row: put non-working ndls back in working position and knit 10 rows. Next row: pick up st. from CO row and knit them together with st. on the ndls. Install punchcard and CC and work fish motive card once. Remove CC and knit a few plain rows. Remove sts. to circular ndl, knit a few rows plain stockinette and start decreases:
row 1: * knit 5 st, 2 tog.* row 2: purl,
row 3: * knit 4 st., knit 2 tog., row 4 purl,
row 4:knit 2 tog., row 5: purl,
row 6:knit 2 tog.*
Break off yarn, draw through sts. to close the gap. Close back hem.
The child’s hat has a rolled hem: just knit about 15 rows in MC and let them roll. Childs hat has 5 pattern repeats: CO 120 st.for a toddler size.
Childs scarf has 3 pattern repeats, so CO 72 st and knit a few card repeats. Take off machine and handknit a few decrease rows. I have sewn the long edge on the sewing machine and closed the remaining sts from the short edges with kitchener stitch.
simple machine knit wristwarmers
I made some easy yet effective wristwarmers for my Dad. His 84 years old hands suffer from Arthritis so he likes to keep them warm while he´s doing his craft things. These wristwarmers are made from one single skein of sockyarn that I had laying around.
The wristwarmers are partly knit on my knitting machine Brother 862 with Garter Carriage (in Dutch we call it "slak" t.i. slug). The thumb is handknit.
Directions.
You need: 50 grams of sockyarn (I used Neveda socky, circular ndls 2,5 mm.
Machine knit on Brother 892, Tension 7.
CO 66 st and knit 100 rows in 2 x 2 rib with Garter Carriage. Cast off.
Close upper part of sideseam for about 3 cm, leave a part unseamed for the thumb and close the rest of the sideseam.
Continue handknitting: Pick up about 24 stitches along thumbhole with a 2,5 mm circular needle . Knit 2x2 rib for 4 cm or desired thumb lenght. Cast off.
That is the simplest way (see picture below). For better thumbshaping (see picture above)you might do some shortrowing at the wristside of the thumb:
Knit 4 st., wrap and turn,
Knit 8 st., wrap and turn,
Knit 10 st., wrap and turn,
Knit 12 st., wrap and turn,
Knit 14 st., wrap and turn,
Knit 16 st., wrap and turn,
Knit 18 st., wrap and turn,
Continue knitting in the round.
